There are
numerous causes of neck pain or cervical pain.
Oftentimes the exact cause is not known.
Typically, when someone is experiencing cervical pain, there are
multiple contributing factors as opposed to a single cause. The following list comprises some of the
leading causes of neck pain, but it is important to realize that you may have
more than one condition occurring at the same time:

Cervical
facet joint dysfunction.
2.
Postural
stress.
3.
Repetitive
use.
4.
Lack of
exercise.
5.
Arthritis
aka osteoarthritis.
6.
Degenerative
disc disease.
7.
Cervical
disc herniation.
8.
Cervical
radiculopathy aka pinched nerve.
9.
Shoulder
joint dysfunction.
10. Thoracic spine scoliosis.
11. Thoracic outlet syndrome.
12. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction or
syndrome.
13. Whiplash.
Among the many causes
of neck pain, it is not uncommon to have a combination of cervical facet joint
dysfunction, shoulder joint dysfunction and degenerative disc disease secondary
to postural stress, all contributing to your neck pain.
It is also not
uncommon to have a cervical disc herniation along with cervical facet and shoulder
joint dysfunction.
There are many
other scenarios and causes of neck pain.
For example, postural stress (i.e., slumped, sitting posture), poor
dietary habits and lack of exercise increase your susceptibility and sensitivity
to pain and diminish your ability to heal.
